Travel:
- The nearest airport is Ljubljana (Brnik). Other airports within 2-3 hours driving time are Trieste (Italy), Venice (Italy), Klagenfurt (Austria).
- Although Bled has a railway station it is on a branch line and only a limited number of trains stop there. The best mainline station to use is Lesce-Bled which is about 10 minutes by car,taxi or bus from Bled.
- The train from Munich, via Saltzburg, passes through Lesce/Bled on its way to Ljubljana. Currently there is a sleeper service on this route.
- To drive on Slovenia’s Autoroutes/Highways, you must buy an e-Vignette (Road Toll). These are sold at Petrol stations and at the border. You can pay online here in advance of your journey. Fines for not having a Vignette are immediate and very high!
- A vignette is also needed to drive on Austria’s autoroutes/highways. You can pay online here in advance of your journey for Vignettes and tolls for tunnels.
- NOTE: Because of Austria's Consumer Laws, individuals must wait 18 days before using the Vignette. Business users can book and use the Vignette immediately. Tunnel tolls can be used immediately by everyone.
- In Italy you pay at toll booths during your journey.
- The Karavanke tunnel between Austria and Slovenia is subject to delays at peak times (usually weekends).
- During daylight hours you must drive with headlights on low-beam (dipped). The maximum speed limit in built-up areas, if there is no signed restriction, is 50 kph.
- Most Car Parks charge a fee. If there are blue lines around the parking area there is no charge up to the limit stated on the signs, but you must display your time of arrival where it can be seen. “Clocks” for this can be bought at the Post Office. A piece of paper is OK too.
- You can use the EASYPARK app at most car parks.
Free Tourist Bus.
During the "High Season", July and August, a free tourist bus service operates between Bled and major local places of interest. This bus stops at our village.
